Research & Publications

My research focuses on development, agricultural biotechnology, consumer acceptance of biotech food, Digital Sequence Information and recently on ‘water footprint’ analysis.  I also have extensive knowledge of novel genome editing tools such as CRISPR/Cas9, TALENS, ZFN, and gene drives.  Both their regulatory status and their potential economic benefits and risks.

I am currently working with colleagues in Honduras and Costa Rica to study the impacts of agricultural biotechnology regulations in Central and South America. An ongoing focus of my research is the impact of genetically modified crops in developing countries. After modelling the impacts of GM maize in El Salvador, I am now exploring the impacts of GM maize phaseout in Mexico.  A second research focus is the implications of Digital Sequence Information.  A third is on the impacts of “Big Data” and digital agricultural technologies.
